The pictures of those look nice. But quite frankly, I’ve found that Sun Star’s quality control is pretty bad and the screws to detach the models from their bases are so tight that they’re almost IMPOSSIBLE to remove! In addition, I’ve found their customer service to be nonexistent. I’m therefore very reluctant to buy any more Sun Star products.
You are completely right, when they were cheap it was no problem. But they literally triple prices for 20 years old moulds. They have some really interesting cars, like limousine. My last set was w220 pullman, great quality of model but sunstar cars are not worthy some headaches anymore for me.
Since this is the site that I depend on for reliable evaluations/comments/reviews of 1/18 diecast models, I thought I should contribute. I purchased two of Sun Star’s 2023 releases (The Continental Mark III and the castle maroon and grey Eldorado Brougham). After receiving them, I summarily canceled a third order for their 1960 Thunderbird. While I don’t consider these Sun Star models expensive, I don’t consider them cheap. At the $140 (US) price point, these cars leave a lot to be desired. While the designs are appealing, the quality is just crap. On their website they say, “Sun Star has strived to bring to the demanding collector the very best quality die-cast collectible money can buy”. With shut-line gaps so wide a person could insert a crudely sharpened pencil, laughably uneven door winder frame alignments, doors that don’t close completely, or that jamb once opened, hubcap decals that are are grossly off-center. I guess you probably get that message that I am completely disenchanted with my Sun Start models. I would gift them to one of the children in the family if the models weren’t so flimsy. They are somewhere between Models and Toys. They don’t seem to fit either category. I haven’t been collecting a long time, but I do own a couple CMC’s, an Amalgam, couple Exoto’s, several Car Arts, Almost Reals, and quality ACMEs, ERTLs, an iscale, and a KK Scale. I will not buy another Sun Star product. .
Correction on my previous post….
..door window.(instead of door winder)
.
And yes, I meant Auto Art (not Car Art). Autocorrect has a mind of its own! LOL
