REVIEW: AUTOart Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 Presentation

Our latest review is the 1:18 AUTOart Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 Presentation Car in Matte White.  This model comes from AUTOart’s composite series.  Two other colour options are available; they include Matt Black and Matt Grey with special livery.  The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 does feature opening bits, but this only extends to the interior.  More details are provided below.

From the exterior view, the lines of the Mercedes-Benz AMG are fantastic, a very sexy model with beautiful lines.  Ride stance and massive rear wing add to the aggressive nature and beauty of the car.  Shutlines and panel gaps are great, a typical trademark of AUTOart’s new composite material.

The finish of the exterior Matte White is somewhat disappointing.  From my perspective I’m left with the driving feeling to pull-out my Dremel tool and sand-down the exterior and finish the job.  It really feels that generic.  I’m not sure if AUTOart is actually painting the finish on these matte creations or embedding the particles within the composite material during molding process.  Nevertheless the exterior finish is lacking.

On the plus side, most of the cooling and duct workings do feature perforated metal pieces, which give the model a more authentic feel.  The best work being the opening just behind the front wheels.  Carbon fibre accents are completed well throughout the model too.

The front of the Mercedes-Benz AMG is executed well, though there is nothing over the top here.  Clean finish work throughout and decent use of materials for grille, headlights and carbon fibre fins and spoilers.

The rear wing takes front and centre.  It basically captures the essence of the model and provides the end-user with what GT3 racing is all about.  Some like it, some don’t.  I’m on the team that does.  Finish materials throughout are very nice and work is carried out with care.

Since most of the model is sealed, there isn’t much I can show in regards to motor, what I can show you is the side exhaust mid point of the car.  Work here is completed well with good use of the materials.

The wheels are beautifully executed, the photo above doesn’t lie.  All elements are top notch and provide the realism we collectors crave.  Well done!

Inside the cockpit of the Mercedes-Benz AMG is a landscape of carbon fibre, which extends to the seats and door cards too.  The car comes complete with a full roll-cage, fire extinguisher, and more.  After all, this is a race car at heart.  All pieces are executed nicely and crafted with care.  I did however notice the absence of the small magnets in the doors.  They aid in helping the light composite material stay tight when in the closed position.

AUTOart’s Mercedes-Benz AMG isn’t for everyone; there are a few reasons for this.  One, people are tired of the Matte finishes – the execution of this particular car is suspect.  Two, based on $200+ CND price point, the model offers only access to the interior.  Three, some don’t see the reason for presentation cars and big ass wings.  On the flip side the model has some great shelf presence.  I personally love presentation cars; yes, I like my girls naked!  In the end sales will prove AUTOart right or wrong.  Enjoy the pics!

If you’re into the Mercedes race cars in plain presentation liveries, Biante are doing the E63 V8 Supercar in chrome-finish later in the year. Should add a touch of bling to the collection ;)

A presentation models are sometimes show cars. That appear at various functions including car shows. The rules for the Blancpain GT Series allow teams to have a certain size wing. So that’s a wing for racing. And people need to read things for a long distance. So large lettering.
