More Classic Camaros GreenLight Collectibles!

GreenLight Collectibles is once again bringing out the 1970’s mould of the 1:18 scale Chevrolet Camaro.  And to be honest, we quite enjoy both of the colour choices.  The two models include the 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport in Silver and Black and the 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport in Light Blue Metallic/Black.  Both are scheduled to arrive in May 2023.

Great! GL finally made a regular Camaro from their late model 2nd gen mold. No front fender vents, no fake hood scoop, correct (alright not super accurate but correct) rally wheels and a decent two tone paint job. Even have whitewalls! Nice. I know this might not be a popular subject here as everyone else seem to collect Audis, Bentleys and hypercars. These are cars I saw all over the place as a young lad. Pretty happy somebody thought of making them.

In my opinion these are so far the most interesting releases from GL in their second generation Camaro line up.
Nevertheless I think the 70’s Camaro and Firebird in all their different model years deserve much higher quality replicas in 1:18. Such beautiful cars.

I couldn’t agree more regarding the second generation Camaro and Firebird deserving high quality representation – particularly the 1971-1973 models. AutoArt created a very nice Mustang Mach 1 from that era many years ago. These GM classics deserve the same.

A couple Camaro generations aren’t well represented, No problem with 1 st gens, seems like nobody can reproduce any 2nd gen roofline correctly, (ERTL being closest with their 70-71’s), mid 2nd gen 74-77 don’t even exist at all except that rare as hen’s teeth Aussie Race Camaro… While the Mustang II (fancy Pinto…) still is in production… Go figure. 3rd gen… That is not well represented at all IROC Z and other versions. At least the Trans Am got a better model in 1/18 but in general the Firebird is just as scarce as the Camaro if not more. 4th gen barely made a blip on that radar, even as the SS was a fierce performer. 5th gen which is a fairly decent car all around, doesn’t get much recognition either. What’s went on?

I somehow still hope, the final version of the blue metallic RS will feature a two tone paint job with blue. Does anybody here know why blue hooded RS are so rare? Were they a one year option only? Or only for export? Like amber turn signals replacing the red lights at the outer panel for Europe … (think about a coming model with european backlights!) Nevermind, I’ll try to get both, anyway …
