ST Well Audi RS6 Avant?

It’s funny how this hobby works at times, we recently unveiled the Super A. 1:18 Audi RS6 Avant.  Looks great, though the LED lights… Not our thing.  Fast forward to today and news of the alternative option for the same and in 1:18 scale, and it looks darn good too.  And guess what, no lights!

From what we gather this piece is made by STWell.  Who is STWell you may ask, they are a Chinese-based manufacturer, who was recently used by Kyosho to replicate the extremely well-done Lexus LX570 – a model that also ended up in the 2020 DiecastSoceity.com Model of the Year list!  Their example is scheduled to arrive in Q3 2021.  Colours include Blue, Black, White and Grey.  Target retail $138 US.  We like it!

I hope the quality won´t be bad at all. Looks great so far

Did you click on the active link for the Kyosho Lexus SUV? They made that, this Audi should be along the same line or quality with added details.

LED lights on models not your thing? Really? Then look at this https://youtube.com/c/modelllichtsysteme
    I think it’s amazing!

To each their own. The juice isn’t with the squeeze or the price tag. This example is much less than the Super A. Now that’s a good thing ;)

      • Mike Wiseman says:

The super A is only $200 usd. That’s not a significant amount higher for such an incredible feature. To be able to recreate to look and functionality of the DRL and turn signals, as flood lights, dash and map lighting. In a hobby where we wonder what is going to be the next “big thing” to actually make the hobby better or the replica more realistic. This is it. As long as we don’t see a sacrifice in detail directly resulting from the led feature (which we shall see) I don’t understand how anyone could not be in favor of it.

        • DS Team says:

Super A has a suggested retail of $239, and we won’t be surprised when it actually comes to market the retail will be higher.

The hobby needs to focus on quality pieces not add another layer or selective eye candy to distract from the overall results. For the most part, these are static and somewhat fragile replicas, they sit on display to be admired not played with.

          • RYO says:

The differences I noticed between those two: the lack of sunroof and PE parts in the engine bay.

          • Karsten says:

I agree that LED shouldn´t be used to gloss over short-comings (or deliberate short-cuts) in more conventional areas. The LED feature itself, too, needs to be excellent, not just two LEDs head and tail, or it can even spoil a good model.
The generally static nature of model display, however, allows for remote-controlled lighting features more than the 360 degree access that most of us want: You need to handle the model to enjoy the opening features and few will statically display a model with every opening ajar.
The above link shows what´s possible through modification. How much easier would it be if it were to be included from the factory instead of having to disassemble, drill, etc. and put it all back together. And thus it would become more accessible and more affordable too.

          • Mike Wiseman says:

That’s why I stated that as long as the feature itself does not directly affect the quality of the replica in a negative way. From what I’ve seen of this type of lighting feature, it can be controlled without touching the model. The Super A Audi RS6 is already available for pre-order at $199.00 usd.

        • Benz says:

Agree with Mike. As long as the feature is executed properly & professionally so that it does not mimic a child’s toy, it’d be wonderful to see the car in the dark illuminated by its own set of lights & as Karsten mentioned, being able to operate the functions of the individual lights by remote control would be a bonus & I’m certain that not only kids would be impressed but adults too. In fact, the maker could also have the lighting controls available as an app that could be downloaded onto mobile devices.

I was given 2 sets of LED lights, white, orange (or red, can’t remember) with the wiring & cell-battery casing which could be installed in a diecast model car albeit with some mods required but nothing as fancy as the ones installed by the infamous guy on YouTube & that itself has got me all excited just thinking about it.

Anyway, if I’m not mistaken, Amalgam also offer this feature on their models, at a price of course and Kyosho too has some sort of lights on their 1:12 scale Rolls Royce

  3. Atalante says:

On many modern cars the lighting design has become part of the distinct character of the car and this aspect haven’t been translated in scale so far. So as long as the new lighting feature proposed by Super A is well implemented and no corners are cut in other details I think it is a great idea. In a display where this kind of car completely disappear next to a classic car or a super / hypercar it will make it truly stand out. Really looking forward seeing how this will be implemented.

    • Karsten says:

Here is a modified R S 6 with lights. https://youtu.be/sdE0UZfcLuc Let’s see whether Super A can hold a candle to it.

      • Mike Wiseman says:

I follow that guy on YouTube. He is exactly what I’ve been waiting for in this industry. Super A doesn’t seem to have the signals chasing like his and wouldn’t expect all the tiny buttons inside to illuminate, but from the sample videos I’m pretty impressed for the price point

        • Karsten says:

Yes, he lives some 200km from me and he did my daily driver with the dynamic indicators and all. So that´s what adds credibility to the models id the light signature is part of the car´s design (not necessary with older cars). Can you share the sample video for the Super A?

          • Mike Wiseman says:

I saw your video on the fusion. I also own a ford fusion..lol. I don’t know if yours is considered a fusion or mondeo. I’m not sure how to share video on here. But there are 2 videos of it on carloverdiecast.com

          • Karsten says:

Ok, I´ve seen the CLDC video. It´s bad video quality and I might be wrong, but it looks as if at least the rear indicators are dynamic. Front indicators might be too, swallowed by video frequency interference. Jakob Michel´s RS6 modification was the reason why I asked him to do mine. It´s called Mondeo anywhere outside the North America, so you must be located in North America if yours is called Fusion. I absolutely love this car, great design and more comfortable than a Mercedes C-Class.

** Just read a VERY unflattering thread on the above individual. Anyone one purposing to send this person a model, please do your homework first. As always there are two sides to the story… but there were supporting persons with the same challenges. Proceed with caution **

        • Benz says:

Yes, I read about that too. Quite surprised actually that something like that could actually happen as the perpetrator must surely be aware & mindful of the risk of damage to his reputation & credibility

  4. Mike Wiseman says:

Yea, I just noticed a little bit ago the back signals are dynamic. Even with the video issues I really don’t the think the front signals are. I’m in the United States. I love mine too. It’s a hybrid. Gets 40 plus mpg and rides like a dream. Corners real well also. Mine has the DRL on the bottom of the headlight assembly so I split them and added a drl/amber signal strip on the top with drl/amber signal halos. Plus a red demon eye in the projector. Looks pretty sweet

  5. . says:

Looks good I hope they make the C6 RS6 sedan in the future as well especially in blue
